What do you say when your partner callously tells you that your relationship didn't mean as much to them as it did to you, and that suddenly it's over?
I've always believed that, as much as we have no control over the behaviour of others, we still have a choice about how we respond to the curves that life throws our way. This song is about just that - making your own decision when someone else has dropped a bomb on your otherwise happy life.
Is this song autobiographical? No, indeed I am a charlatan, a phony, pretending that I've been saddled with this emotional turmoil. But to anyone who has felt this cornered, felt the rug pulled out from under their feet, this song is your anthem. Take that!
This is one of only two songs for which the original piano track recorded in New Jersey was kept in the final mix.
lyrics
I Win
What do I say?
When you smile and tell me your love was just some foolish game
And it’s over
What did I do?
Or do you always walk away when the turn comes around to you?
And you don’t want to play anymore
Everyone wants to be in love
Just a game isn’t good enough
Tell me, what were you playing for?
CHORUS:
Well, I played ‘cause I wanted to - never told a single lie
And I stayed ‘cause I wanted you - always knew the reason why
I gave ‘cause I wanted to, saved all my love for you
So if this is just a game to you, I win
What was the price?
Now that it’s clear you made your every move with loaded dice
And it’s over
What do you see?
Now that you’ve called it off, and made the perfect fool of me
Do you think that you know the score?
You say it’s no big deal, well, I disagree
‘cause it seemed pretty real to me
When I hit the floor
CHORUS
I may not know everything
But I’ve always, I’ve always known how to learn
And I still get to take my turn
CHORUS
So if this is just a game to you, then I’m sad for what became of you
If this is how you set me free, I’m not going to beg for a best of three
It’s true I’ll take some time to cry, but I won’t lay down at your feet and die
Yes, if this is just a game to you, I win

Singer/Songwriter/Pianist/Producer/Engineer and many more things to many more people, Allister still can't decide what he
wants to be when he grows up. His music can perhaps be described as modern folk, since it contains rich storytelling and imagery, but it might be mistaken for Smooth Jazz, Roots or AC. You decide.
Any way you describe it, Allister's music will reach deep within and satisfy...more
