This song is the one which dropped off the list when I was recording the "Too" album with Darren Walters. The song wasn't a good fit with the songs on that album, and perhaps because it was left behind, it may have played a role in setting the tone for this album. I re-wrote a few of the lyrics and we recorded it.
Other than the title, the song has nothing in common, not even any hint of inspiration from the similarly named hit song "Breakfast at Tiffany's". It's just a coincidence that the titles are similar, so let's nip that in the bud right here.
Another song about being alone, I wanted this one to be more upbeat rather than my more serious songs. People often ask me "why do you sing such sad songs?", so this one was a fun take on being alone and waiting for the right person to come along.
For the non-Canadians out there, you may not catch the references which have been woven into Canadian culture through our love of the iconic Tim Horton's chain of coffee shops. We Canadians have our hockey, our beavers and our Tim Horton's, so back off and get your own coffee...
lyrics
Breakfast at Timmy's
Last night, I just couldn’t sleep
Starin’ at the ceiling and countin' lots of sheep
I grabbed my coat, and I stepped into the dawn
Sky was drippin' orange but the sweetness was gone
I can’t taste it when I wake up alone
Not the first lonely morning I’ve known
Yeah, the pictures of my life are all in monochrome
I don’t care if couples turn and stare
As I drink my double-double at my favourite single chair
They’ve got it good but they may not have it right
They’re just a perfect couple ‘til they have the perfect fight
And the compromises come undone
Always hiding behind all the fun
Then they’ll either stick together or they’ll turn around and run
CHORUS:
Everybody’s crazy ‘bout their breakfast in bed
Not the same when you’re the only one home
So I’m sitting at a table made for Barbie and Ken
Here I am again, having breakfast at Timmy’s alone
My friends claim, that I’m the one to blame
That I’m holding out for perfect, playing some kind of mind game
They don’t get it, it’s nothin’ like that
I can’t date a girl who wants me acting just like her dad
My door’s open for love to blow in
But I’m waiting for the right kind of wind
If I gave it up too easy it would be such a sin
CHORUS
Out there is the girl who’s meant to be with me
I know the perfect place for us to meet
Having breakfast at Timmy’s
Having breakfast at Timmy’s
Yeah, having breakfast at Timmy’s…
Yes, I know I’ll sing a different song
When the girl from my dreams comes along
And we’ll share a little sugar with the coming of dawn
CHORUS

Singer/Songwriter/Pianist/Producer/Engineer and many more things to many more people, Allister still can't decide what he
wants to be when he grows up. His music can perhaps be described as modern folk, since it contains rich storytelling and imagery, but it might be mistaken for Smooth Jazz, Roots or AC. You decide.
Any way you describe it, Allister's music will reach deep within and satisfy...more
